We, as South Africans, and our country have a lot of potential – rugby world champions, Miss Universe, world’s best barista, world’s best restaurant, most popular tourist destination and the list goes on and on.
For some or other reason, God has placed a very special bunch of people down here at the southern most tip of Africa. Resilient, resourceful, friendly, adaptable, caring, faithful.
Just imagine what we can accomplish, if each of us reaches our full potential – you will be living in a country where all services will be provided by a professional – from house cleaners to politicians, from trench diggers to neuro-surgeons, from taxi drivers to jet pilots.
In order for this to happen, we must believe in ourselves, we must have a vision for ourselves, we must work hard on our dream.
Do you believe that you can be more than what you are currently? That you possess talents that are not fully developed and that, given half a chance, you will be able to develop to a point where it can serve you much better? Start believing in yourself by taking baby steps forward – try making a small improvement to yourself so that you can see you are worth more. Work a little bit harder, plan a little bit better, try to be a little bit more understanding or do anything else you can think of to improve yourself.
Do you have a dream for yourself? Even if it is only for the next month or year. Something that you should be able to accomplish although it may take a miracle or two? Remember, you cannot go beyond your dream for yourself. Even if you get only halfway towards your dream, you will be much further than staying where you are today.
Start working on your dream. Things cannot happen if you do not do your part. Stop blaming others for your situation – even if you are correct, it will do little to change your situation. It will just make you feel more of a victim and incapable of changing anything. Nothing will happen if you do not see a new you in your mind’s eye and get up and start working hard towards it.
Because this is what makes us South Africans. We never give up.
