In a story told by Jesus himself, the prodigal son decided to leave the house of his father and spend his enheritance on an immoral and sinful life (Luke 15:11 – 32). But it was a big mistake and he decided to return to his father to repent. Then this beautiful verse follows in Luke 15:20 “So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him”. A real father loves his children regardless of their sins.

So who is our God? He has many attributes. He is

• The only God

I am the Lord, and there is no one else; There is no God except Me. I will embrace and arm you, though you have not known Me. ISAIAH 45:5 AMP

• A loving father

“And I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters” says the Lord Almighty. 2 CORINTHIANS 6:18 AMP

• Love

Beloved, let us [unselfishly] love and seek the best for one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves [others] is born of God and knows God [through personal experience]. The one who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. [He is the originator of love, and it is an enduring attribute of His nature.] 1 JOHN 4:7‭-‬8 AMP

• Holy

He is perfection. Holy, holy, holy [is the] Lord God, the Almighty [the Omnipotent, the Ruler of all], who was and who is and who is to come [the unchanging, eternal God]. REVELATION 4:8 AMP

• Good
  • O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good; How blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who takes refuge in Him. PSALMS 34:8 AMP
  • “For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster to give you a future and a hope”. JEREMIAH 29:11 AMP

• All powerful

Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! There is nothing too difficult or too wonderful for You JEREMIAH 32:17 AMP

• Present everywhere
  • Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead), behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will take hold of me. PSALMS 139:7‭-‬10 AMP
  • “Can anyone hide himself in secret places So that I cannot see him?” says the Lord . “Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord. JEREMIAH 23:24 AMP
• Glorious

The Lord reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many islands and coastlands be glad. Clouds and thick darkness surround Him [as at Sinai]; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. Fire goes before Him and burns up His adversaries on all sides. His lightnings have illuminated the world; The earth has seen and trembled. The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the peoples see His glory and brilliance. PSALMS 97:1‭-‬6 AMP

• Faithful

Therefore know [without any doubt] and understand that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who is keeping His covenant and His [steadfast] lovingkindness to a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments; DEUTERONOMY 7:9 AMP

• Merciful (that is, you do not get the damnation you deserve) and Gracious (that is, you get eternal life that you do not deserve)

The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. PSALMS 145:8 AMP

• Wise

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and decisions and how unfathomable and untraceable are His ways! ROMANS 11:33 AMP

• Just

The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness without iniquity (injustice), just and upright is He. DEUTERONOMY 32:4 AMP

Where do I find God? Given the above, you will find Him in your heart if you allow Him in there, in the hearts of His other children, in His creation and in heaven. In fact, He is everywhere. The best in each of us represents some little part of the character of God. Develop it so that others may experience more of Him in you.

Through Jesus we are one with Him. Jesus prayed “That they all may be one; just as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be one in Us, so that the world may believe [without any doubt] that You sent Me. JOHN 17:21 AMP. Accept that Jesus has also died for your sins and start experiencing unity with God, Jesus and all your other brothers and sisters in the Lord.

The first commandment that Jesus gave us is “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind”. MATTHEW 22:37 AMP. We are here on earth to glorify Him through our lives. He deserves all the honour and glory for everything! For from Him [all things originate] and through Him [all things live and exist] and to Him are all things [directed]. To Him be glory and honor forever! Amen. ROMANS 11:‬36 AMP
