Looking after my own body and physical health is part of an effective and balanced lifestyle. Without an healthy body it will be much more difficult, if not impossible, to accomplish all my goals. It is, therefore, important to maintain my body and do the following aspects on a regular basis. It is also important to note that, like with all aspects of life, I should keep moderation in mind. To not overdo any of this. Another important matter is to listen to my body. If I have a chronic pain, to visit my doctor. If I am overweight, to eat and drink less and exercise more. If I have indigestion, to try to find what it is that I am eating or drinking that my body does not like. Or maybe I need to see a doctor or dietitian about it.
Eating and drinking correctly
There are many foodstuffs that we are told are bad for our health. These include sugar, alcohol and certain fats, but the list is actually very long depending on who you ask. It depends a lot on your personal situation and, although I believe there is truth to many of this advice, you should listen to your own body, get good advice you trust and eat and drink in moderation.
Exercising
Get your heartbeat up a little every now and again. It will make you feel fantastic, burn some fat and be good for your circulatory system. There are many people out there who do a lot of heavy exercise and really enjoy it. Personally, I like to do exercise in moderation with lots of walking and some cycling and swimming. I have never enjoyed participating in formal sports but that is just me. I may not have won any medals for sports but in return I do not suffer from typical ailments and pains many people at my age do. These afflictions, I believe, are many times due to people’s overdoing of stressful sporting activities and it gets the better of them when they grow older. But that is just my personal opinion. If you enjoy sports, by all means, go for it. It is better than doing absolutely no physical activities.
Medical check-ups
Personally, I do not believe one should be going to a doctor without any physical reason to do so – just in case something is wrong with me. If you have any symptoms that are abnormal (especially if they could be related to a condition that is in your family history), you should consult your doctor. In doing so, one can be in a better position to enjoy early detection of any life threatening diseases which will make it much easier (and cheaper) to treat and prevent. But think carefully before you go for a specific check-up, that if you should be diagnosed, what you should do with such information. There is no point in going for a medical check-up if you do not intend to follow the doctor’s advice.
Health plays an important part in a fulfilled life. There are certain basics you will have to attend to in order to give yourself a proper chance. Overdoing or under-doing any of the above-mentioned basics could lead to damage to your health, general well-being or just the extent to which you can enjoy life. The above-mentioned are all my personal opinions – follow your own heart, and listen to what your body is telling you, to decide what is best for you personally!
